If you are planning to write a blog or writing a blog now, there is one technique you need to know that will greatly increase blog traffic. Fortunately, the tool is free and easy to use. It will only add a few minutes to your blogging routine.
Here’s how it goes:
1. Pick your blogging topic…write a few phrases that relate to your topic. Here are two I wrote for this article: keywords for seeding your blog OR using keywords in your blog
2. Enter Google Adwords Keyword Tool into your search box. This tool is free to use and you don’t even need to sign up for a a Google Account to use it.
3. Put the keyword phrases into the box for keyword ideas. Review the suggested keyword phrases you get in the results. You are looking for a phrase that is relevant to your blog entry and not too popular or too unpopular. Reject terms that have more than 20,000 searches and less than 2,000 or so searches. Look for phrases in the 1000’s.
I actually had to make several refinements to find a phrase for this entry. When I search on keywords for seeding your blog OR using keywords in your blog the first time, I got a lot of phrases about grass seeds! So, I removed the word “seeding”. Next I got a lot of nonsense I couldn’t recognize. Still no phrases with blogging and keywords. So I put in “blogging tools” and I got many phrases including the one “increase blog traffic” that is a great fit for my topic. This search required 3 rounds but usually I only need to do one search.
You’ll soon see how this process is an art and a science. You make a series of choices…there is no one right answer. What is happening is you are adding more content and more keywords to your blog–both of which increase your blog traffic by helping people find you and helping your blog come up higher and more frequently in search results.
